Food Repurposing: Ten Things to Never Throw Out

food repurposing

In this world of extravagance, food repurposing might not be glam. But, if you care about the planet, no matter what your income, then read this!

Food Waste

It is necessary to stretch a buck. And regardless of income, it’s the right thing to do. My mom, who was the goddess of recycling and repurposing long before it was trendy, would say if I scoffed at this notion, I’ve gotten beyond my raisin ‘or too big for my britches!

Reducing Food Waste

One way to practice caring for your world, your earth, the future, is to repurpose food. Just by spending a little time doing any of this stuff, you can also put more money in your pockets. You can also store the valentine’s wild side and try it on the next day.

Reducing Wastage of Food

I’m talking about vegetables you’re cooking to cut the ends off and usually throw away. Stuff like broccoli, celery, Romain lettuce, green tomatoes, onions, bokchoy, and more. Here’s what I recommend. Simple put these ends in a small bowl with some water, set them in a bright light spot, like your kitchen window, and in a few days, you’ll witness new development! One of the things you can make by stored vegetables is Sweet Potato Short Fries.

Cooking with Leftovers

I love to do this entirely for words of wisdom for women: your shoulders, particularly with the celery stub that I cut off. Seeing the baby leaves sprouting and pushing up is magical. Once these leaves are around three to four inches tall, I will snip them and use them in recipes, soups, stews, sauces, and more with the fragrant fresh leaves! If you are looking for what to make with the leftover then Italian chicken creamy garlic shells pasta is a great option.

How to Use Leftover Food

Another thing that you trim and cut and usually throw out with your vegetables. Put these and refrigerate or freeze in a plastic container. You can then throw them in a little pot, cover them with water, boil/cook them and make a balanced vegetable broth that is aromatic. From broccoli stalks to radish, zucchini, squash, and more ends and bits, the ends of cucumbers, just about everything can be thrown in. Only make sure you’ve scrubbed these vegetables and washed them well in advance before making honey spiced squash bowls!

What to do with Food Scraps

It is possible to reuse and repurpose so many peels. To name a few, orange peelings, potato, and apple peelings. You can also make bacon dripping skillet steak eggs with the leftover things and give the dish a new twist.

How to Reuse Leftover Food

To make a wonderful autumn tea or a DIY potpourri, you can dry them up and use them. Apple cider vinegar and apple jelly are also reused for apples. In addition, its acidic property also makes the apple from your pots and pans a decent stain remover. In order to minimize dark circles, put fresh apple peels over your eyes for cosmetic purposes for at least 5 minutes. If you have oranges left out in your home then one of the best recipes to make can be dill pickle creole shredded pork.

Repurposed Food

Citrus rinds make excellent disinfectants and deodorizers (lemons, limes, oranges). Body and facial scrubs. They can help avoid acne, reduce itching from rashes, and are decent moisturizers.

Stretching a buck is important. And regardless of income, it’s the right thing to do. My Mama, who was the goddess of recycling and repurposing long before it was vogue, would say I’ve gotten above my raisin’ or too big for my britches if I scoffed at this idea! Food repurposing is one way to practice caring about your world, your planet, the future. You also can put more money in your pockets just by spending a little time doing some of these things. Now before you throw out the carcass of the best Sunday chicken ever, read on, my luvs!

Vegetables left at night

I’m talking about vegetables that you prep cutting off the ‘ends’ and usually throw out. Things like carrots, celery, Romain lettuce, green onions, onions, bokchoy, and more. Here’s what I suggest. Simple put these ends in a small bowl with some water, set them in a bright light spot, like your kitchen window, and in a few days, you’ll witness new growth!

The kitchen in a mess

I totally love to do this especially with the celery stub that I cut off. It’s magical to see the baby leaves sprouting and pushing up. Once these leaves are peeking out about three to four inches tall, I’ll snip them and use the fragrant fresh leaves in recipes, soups, stews, sauces, and more!

Leftover veggies for a new dish

Another thing with your veggies that you’re trimming and cutting and usually tossing out. Put these in a plastic bag and refrigerate or freeze. You can then toss them in a bit pot, cover them with water, simmer boil/cook and create an aromatic healthy vegetable broth. Just about anything can be tossed in, from the stalks of broccoli to radish, zucchini, squash, and more ends and pieces, the ends of cucumbers. Just MAKE SURE you’ve scrubbed and washed these veggies well ahead of time!

Peels that you can use to decorate

And, when corn is in season. Don’t throw out those cobs. Goodness sakes, just simmer boil them and you’re gonna have some crazy tasty corn broth for an outrageous soup!
