There are experiences in life that qualify as pretty darn phenomenal~~for guys, maybe it would be having ringside tickets to the heavy weight championship of the world, box seats at the Super Bowl, or maybe saying ‘start your engines!’ for Nascar at the Daytona 500! For us girls, it probably depends upon what your affinity or passion is~~maybe seeing your favorite musician, having front row seats at The Voice or American Idol, sitting front and center at a Josh Groban concert, watching the finals of Wimbledon~~you get the idea.
Well, for a foodie like me, it’s all about chefs and food and dining experiences. How did this come about? Well, Ben, my hubster, got a call from Andy, our neighbor, who’d reserved a table for 18 of his best friends~~’So, Ben do you and Ally want to be my and Stacey’s guest for dinner at Matushisa? Chef Nobu Matsuhisa and Chef Jose Andres are doing a collaborative dinner?” Ben~’Well, lemme check with Ally because our grandkids are here and I’m not sure…’ Ben comeS to me, relates this invite, says he’s put Andy on hold about accepting. I look at Ben with this ‘Are you f#*%(&#ing out of your mind!!!’ on my face! Ally~’Well, seeing how Chef Jose Andres is one of Time magazine’s 2011 Top 100 most influential people in the world ~~and, no I’m not stuttering~~for his culinary innovation and quest to fight hunger, and that Chef Nobu is a world-renowned chef known for his Japanese fusion, me thinks I would like to go! Call Andy back NOW!!’ Besides I’m thinking our grandkids don’t need a babysitter…they’re 20 years old and will welcome hanging out on their own and some pizza!
So, I get all gussied up even use my curling iron to give myself some Shirley Temple ringlets, and we’re off to Vail Village! We meet Andy and Stacey and all the others in our party~~the evening starts with Dom Periognon, and I’m totally feeling like Cinderella! Then all of a sudden right at the table next to us, but who should appear! Get outta here~~I blink and blink again~am I imagining this~~dang, we’re dining right next to Kenny G! What a cutie pahtootie, and who hails me over to meet him, but Chef Nobu~~now do you think for one nano second, I hesitated? Remember, I said this was Cinderella! Besides in life, it’s all about capturing those instantaneous fabulous moments that present themselves~~be ready without reservation or the mental chatter that might be related to ‘what ifs’ and make you miss the opportunity!
I mean, reeeally, when would I ever have dreamed about this kind of experience~~yes, you just never know when there’s going to be a major God wink in your life. For some reason, I was there ensconced in a seven -course meal~~the evening was full of pixie dust and magic~~come share the enchantment through the pictures. And, yes, the next day, my bubble had burst, and I was back to scrubbing pots and pans, doing laundry and cleaning terrrrlits~~real life has a way of making itself known.
Keep your eyes, ears and entire self peeled for capturing the best of life~~whatever that may be~~make yourself sparkle! ~~xoxoxo ~~peace, nameste & glittery love~~ally
First up: our fabulous hosts, Andy and Stacey
Second up: the menu.
Notice my name at the bottom! Color me special! See if you can figure out from the menu what each dish is that I’ve photographed. Some of the ingredients I’d never heard of. All was absolutely fabulously delicious. Small tapas-like servings and in the end, I was fuller than a tick on a hounddog!
